Hugo Vargas has called Southwest Florida home for more than 40 years and proudly serves the people of LaBelle as a City Commissioner. As a first-generation American, Hugo understands firsthand what it means to live the American Dream. The son of farm workers who became U.S. citizens, he was raised with a deep respect for hard work, personal responsibility, and the freedoms that make America exceptional.

His path wasn’t always easy. Like many young men, Hugo made a few missteps along the way—but those challenges became turning points that shaped his character and deepened his faith. He quickly learned that in the land of the free, opportunity comes with responsibility. Determined to build a better future, Hugo enrolled in vocational school after high school, learned the trade of barbering, and went on to become a successful small business owner. His work not only provided for his family—it created jobs and opportunities for others in the community.

Hugo and his wife Natasha raised four children—Hugo Jr. (27), Angel (25), Ashlynn (24), and Aveary (22)—here in Southwest Florida. Their story is rooted in faith, family, and service, and grounded in the belief that strong communities grow when people step up to lead. Hugo found his calling in servant leadership—coaching youth sports, volunteering at community events, serving in his church, and working to improve the lives of those around him. He currently serves on the Deacon Board at his church, the Hendry County Economic Development Council, the Lee/Hendry Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, and the Board of Directors for HCA Florida Lehigh Hospital. He was also appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to the Florida State Barber Board.

Now, Hugo is ready to take the next step in servant leadership by running for the Florida House of Representatives. As a proud Republican and constitutional conservative guided by faith, family, and freedom, Hugo will bring his real-world experience, business background, and deeply held values to Tallahassee to protect the American Dream for future generations.

With deep roots in District 82 and a life story built on hard work, faith, and redemption, Hugo Vargas will be a strong, principled voice for Southwest Florida.
